Overview
Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) are a cornerstone of modern energy infrastructure, enabling efficient electricity storage, stabilising grids, integrating renewable sources, and managing peak demand.
BESS Types:
Front-of-the-Meter (FTM)
- Grid-scale (30 kWh–10 MWh) for load balancing, EV charging, and backup power.
Behind-the-Meter (BTM)
- Residential and commercial (up to 30 kWh) for backup, peak shaving, and cost optimisation.
Core Components:
Battery Management System (BMS)
- Monitors voltage, temperature, and state of charge; manages cell balancing, thermal control, and fault protection.
Power Conversion System (PCS)
- Converts DC↔AC via inverters; optional DC-DC converters manage voltage levels. Enables bidirectional power flow, high efficiency, and reduced harmonics.
Energy Management System (EMS), HVAC, and Fire Suppression Systems
- Ensure operational safety and reliability.
