Overview

Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) are critical in modern industrial systems, enabling precise and efficient control of motor speed and torque across various load conditions. By adjusting the output frequency and voltage, VFDs optimise energy consumption, improve process control, and extend equipment lifespan.

Core Subsystems:

AC–DC Conversion with Power Factor Correction (PFC)

  • Boost topology ensures high efficiency, reduces harmonics, and improves input power quality.

DC–AC Inverter Stage

  • Converts rectified voltage back to AC with variable frequency and voltage, single-phase or three-phase depending on the application.

Intelligent Control Unit (MCU)

  • RISC-V microcontroller processes sensor data and executes control algorithms (V/f, vector control, or field-oriented control) for stable, dynamic motor performance.

  • RISC-V MCU platform with hardware acceleration and Analog Front End (AFE) integration for real-time feedback and fast response.

  • SiC-/GaN-based power modules in both PFC and inverter stages reduce switching losses and enhance thermal performance.

  • Isolated gate drivers with UVLO, OCP, DESAT, and optional integrated power supplies ensure safe, reliable operation in harsh environments.

  • Single-phase and three-phase VFDs, scalable from fractional horsepower to industrial-grade high-power drives.

Harmonic Compliance

  • Active and passive mitigation techniques meet IEC 61000-3-2 and IEEE 519 standards.
